What is STEAM Fest?

STEAM Fest is a favorite annual event at Forest Trail Elementary focused on inspiring kids to learn and explore with various science, technology, engineering, arts and math activities. Each year our Falcons participate in hands-on lessons and engaging presentations on a variety STEAM topics led by local experts and West Ridge Middle School students.

There is no registration or parent action required! STEAM Fest programming will occur as part of the daily schedule; all students in every grade rotate through different sessions.

2024 MAKER MINUTE  ZOETROPES AND THAUMATROPES OH MY!

Science or Art? Why not both?

Can you imagine a world before the 'moving image'?  In the 19th century, before movies and animation as we know them now, the invention of the Thaumatrope and Zoetrope captivated adults and children using optical illusions and a principle called "persistence of vision" to see images that 'moved' before their eyes!

These optical illusion toys are creative way to explore the science of vision,

while while making art with the moving parts.

The Maker Minute involves each student in a hands-on design-build project, led by parent volunteers in each classroom, to make their own optical illusion toy.

2024 HEADLINER: UT PHYSICS CIRCUS

The Physics Circus is a traveling science show encompassing some of the most important results from classical physics. In roughly an hour of thrilling demonstrations, they cover heat, motion, states of matter, properties of air, and electricity. The Physics Circus aims to show kids some of the cool things you can do with your knowledge of science!

We hope all our Falcons will enjoy this fun break and be inspired to keep investigating, exploring and wondering about our amazing world!
